About The Song
Guadalajara was written by Pépé Guizar and recorded by Elvis for his 1963 movie, Fun in Acapulco. The instrumental track was laid on January 23, 1963, at Radio Recorders. Elvis recorded his vocal track on February 27. Both the Jordanaires and the Mello Men sang backup. Guadalajara was popularized by Xavier Cugat in a 1944 recording (Columbia 36694).
Fun in Acapulco is a 1963 American musical comedy film starring Elvis Presley and Ursula Andress.
The film featured the Top 10 Billboard hit “Bossa Nova Baby” and reached No. 1 on the national weekly box office charts a week after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas. The film would be Presley’s last release before the arrival of Beatlemania. It was the top-grossing movie musical of 1963.
Fun in Acapulco was the sixth Presley film produced by Hal Wallis. None of them were pretentious, instead offering up basic and solid entertainment in a scenic, romantic-comedy format. Judged in that group of Elvis movies, Fun in Acapulco ranks near the top, even a notch above Blue Hawaii. If Presley had continued making films of this quality, his standing in Hollywood would have remained respectable.
